The arena-then called the Ice Palace-opened its doors in October 1996, with the circus performing before the Lightning even took the ice a week later. It's been renamed a few times since (St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa Bay Times Forum, Amalie Arena, and now Benchmark International Arena), but that circus was the true first act.
